![]() ZOTEK® N
High Performance Nylon 6 (Polyamide 6) Foam
ZOTEK® N is a new range of lightweight, closed cell, cross linked foams based on nylon 6 (polyamide 6), a tough, strong and durable material with outstanding high temperature tolerance and excellent resistance to a range of chemical, particularly hydrocarbons, such as oils and fuels, alcohols and ketones. In ZOTEK N, these properties are combined with low weight, flexural response, buoyancy and thermal and acoustic insulation properties derived from the foaming process. Like their parent resins, ZOTEK N foams will exhibit outstanding durability and longevity. ZOTEK N B50 is the first grade in what we foresee will be a range of polyamide foams. It has a density of 3.1 pcf. ZOTEK N B50 foam has a significantly higher upper operating temperature limit than most common foams. The exact limit depends on the application and duration of exposure but thermal shrinkage is not significant (<5%) at 410°F over 24 hours. Upper temperature limits for long term, continuous use of ZOTEK N grades will be far higher than those for polyethylene or polypropylene foams but suitability should be determined for each individual application. CONVERSION ZOTEK N foams can be manipulated using conventional foam conversion methods, such as die and water jet cutting, sawing, laminating and welding into continuous rolls. They can also be thermoformed into complex single component structures providing benefits such as weight and cost reduction. APPLICATION ZOTEK N foams will find application in a range of high temperature resistant seals, gaskets, packings in the general industrial and automotive markets. An excellent thermal insulation material with a wider temperature window than most other foam, it can be thermoformed into complex shapes reducing costs during installation. The structural integrity of ZOTEK N foam over extended temperature range makes it suitable for demanding energy absorbing applications and semi structural parts, particularly in the engine compartment of automobiles. Where foam is one part of a composite and must withstand thermal processing, ZOTEK N will allow higher temperatures to be used reducing cycle times and increasing capacity. Being closed-cell, chemical and temperature resistant allows ZOTEK N foams to be used in fluid level switches. |
